Icarus checks factual claims in a tagged X post against retrieved sources, counts how many genuinely independent origins support or refute them, and publishes the evidence.
This check is automated and model-assisted. Verdicts describe what the listed evidence supports as of the stated UTC time; they are not statements about any person's honesty or intent.
What Icarus does
When someone tags Icarus in a reply, it reads the post that reply is attached to, splits it into individual factual statements, searches for current sources, works out which of those sources are genuinely independent of one another rather than copies of one report, applies a published scoring rubric, and publishes a report page with every source it used.
It does not rank people, score accounts, or keep a profile of anyone. A report is about one post at one moment in time.

How to read a report
- The verdict band
- One of four labels, with a low, medium or high confidence band. The label describes what the listed evidence supports — not whether anyone was being honest.
- Two timestamps
- “Evidence as of” is the instant the evidence set was fixed. “Version published” is when that conclusion went live. Both are UTC.
- What was checked
- The checked post appears as text with a link to X. It is never embedded, and if the post is deleted or protected its text is withheld within 24 hours while the verdict and evidence stay readable.
- Statements checked
- Each statement is judged on its own, with the sources considered, how independent they are of one another, and every limit that applied.
- Evidence tables
- Each source shows its outlet, publication date, reputation tier, whether it is an origin or a derivative of one, its stance, and the exact quote read. Bias labels are shown for context and are never part of the arithmetic.
- Updates
- Re-checks never overwrite a report. Each one is published as a new revision that says what changed and why, and every earlier revision keeps its own address.
Finding a report
There is no search on this site and no list of reports, by name or otherwise. Reports are addressed by post and check only, so the way to a report is the link in the reply it belongs to. This is deliberate: a searchable archive of claims about named people is a different and more harmful product than a fact-check attached to a post.
